Standing Liberty Quarters
Standing Liberty Quarters - the design of the early dates prior to 1925 is such that the date is on the high point of the coin and one of the first areas to show wear. It is quite common to see these early quarters with features of VG to FINE but with the date worn so smooth to be 'barely there'. Therefore, GOOD early dates and most VG do not exhibit 4 full digits, and some fine coins will have 'squished together' dates. In 1925 the design was modified date position recessed, which protects the numbers.
